| With
the net cleared, it's ready to be re-set. Each net is
made of monofilament line, and from top to bottom it
measures about eight feet. The size of the mesh is four
and a half inches square. The size of the mesh is gauged
to allow smaller illegal-sized fish to swim through,
while the seventeen inch or greater legal-sized fish are
caught. The tops of the nets are lined with plastic or
aluminum floats, and the bottoms of the nets are lined
with lead weights. As the nets are fed down the hole
during re-setting, the weighted end sinks to the desired
depth, and of course the top of the net floats eight
feet above to form a "set" that's that tall
and about four hundred feet in length.
