| With
the lines fully secured to the stakes, everything
including the fish is loaded on the sleds, and moved to
the next hole, where the whole lifting process is begun
again. The nets are fished in "gangs" which
can vary from three nets to as many as twelve nets. Each
"gang" of nets is set in a straight line, with
a hole drilled in the ice at each end of each net.
With the length of each net measuring about four hundred
feet, a "gang" can range from twelve hundred
feet for a three-net set to almost a mile long using
twelve nets.
